Mixcloud is coming to South Africa this November!
One of our founders Nikhil Shah will be on tour in South Africa. We’ve organised some exciting events with great local partners in order to connect with the local music scenes and help build musical bridges between South Africa and the rest of the world. (Note - this text has been inspired by our friends from Bridges for Music ;)
Join us in association with Durban Electronic Festival University (DEF) in Durban on the 19th of November at The Upstairs for an intimate discussion followed by DJ sets.
This will be followed by a couch sessions style event at the Red Bull Studios in Cape Town on the 21st November.
OUR NEW ANDROID APP IS HERE!
We’ve ripped up, rebuilt and today relaunched our native Android app, offering Android users slicker access to the world’s largest catalogue of DJ sets and on demand radio shows on the go, all for free!
The new version of Mixcloud’s Android app has a major design and UX overhaul, as well as a focus on an enhanced discovery and playback experience.
Key features of the new experience include the personalized feed, which allows listeners to curate their own radio station, and the “Discover” tab - launched on their iOS app earlier this year - a Netflix-like discovery page that suggests shows to listeners based on their listening history and activity.
We’re also today announcing an update to our iPhone app for iOS 7.
This week Mixcloud looks back on an amazing four days of radio from the best festival of the year. Bestival Radio will be uploading new shows from that wonderful weekend, and reminding you of the last days of summer 2013. They started of the action traditionally with the Thursday breakfast show with the right honorable Rev. Milo Speedwagon easing in the festivals’s early arrivals with traffic, weather and that unique brand of Speedwagon joie de vivre that only the man himself can provide. Highlights from the rest of the day included the mighty Mixhell and Wall of Sound’s Mark Jones Fridays line up featured more amazing artists such as Roska & Jamie George, Room Service, Jagwa Ma, Prince Fatty, Senseless Records and more.www.mixcloud.com/bestivalradio and video highlights, pictures and more over here: bestivalradio.tumblr.com. See you next year!
Mixcloud is proud to present a new HTML-based embeddable widget that looks sexier than ever before.
HTML is now the default option, which means you don’t have to worry about Flash compatibility.
The widget looks and feels just like the new desktop and mobile versions of Mixcloud, giving you the same great experience wherever you are.
Here are the various ways you can embed from Mixcloud…
Mixcloud has several widgets to offer – embeddable playable snippets of code that can be placed into any HTML website or blog on the web.
They come in many shapes, sizes and colors and can be used several ways as illustrated below.
Single Cloudcast Widgets
Adjust the size and add a bit of extra colour to your Cloudcast widget like so:
Multiple Cloudcast Widgets
You can also generate widgets that will embed multiple Cloudcasts, which are all playable from one player. These playlists can be generated from almost any list of Cloudcasts on Mixcloud. The lists can be ordered according “Popular”, “Hot” or most recent. By default they show 10 Cloudcasts and are automatically updated from the site.
To generate the code, you need only click the button for the list of Cloudcasts. Here’s a few good examples:
Embed the latest Cloudcasts from any Cloudcaster profile – each time the Cloudcaster uploads the widget will update itself. Nice.
Create a Playlist containing any Cloudcast and embed this on one single multi-cloudcast widget. The widget will be updated each time you add a new Cloudcast to the Playlist.
Follow widgets really simply allow you to embed a clickable Mixcloud Follow button for any Profile onto any page on the web, for example:
Congratulations Carl Cox on reaching 100,000 Mixcloud Followers!

You may have noticed recently that services and applications have popped up offering plays, favorites, follows and comments in exchange for money. As you might expect we’re not particularly happy about this. We’re working hard to help listeners find great content and people who produce great content build an audience of (real!) listeners, not a community of fake accounts, spammy comments and content of questionable quality appearing at the top of lists. Some of these services have been using comments to spam you and we want to reassure you that we are developing new ways to fight spam – unfortunately there is no simple solution, as we remove them they find new ways to spam you – but we will continue to battle it. Thank you to all of you who have been alerting us to the accounts, we do delete them as quickly as we can.
As for the people who pay for these services and applications that generate fake accounts to add plays, favorites, follows and comments – we don’t consider this to be acceptable behaviour and we will be removing any uploads where this activity is found. In particularly bad cases or times when activity is ongoing we will remove accounts from Mixcloud. If the upload is taking part in a competition the user will be disqualified from the competition.
Let’s continue working together to keep Mixcloud as spam-free as possible and a place to find great radio and engaged fans.
